Are you a glass half full or half empty kind of person? Barb and I are what I would call optimistic. We try to look at things through rose-colored glasses, definitely a glass is half full couple. Trying to focus on the good things in life and let the bad things slide off our backs.
Even with all that, we are not near as optimistic as the dogs. Anytime we go to "the treat cupboard" (known to Barb and me as the pantry), Dakota will sit up and give us a hopeful look.
Any time I get a meal or a snack both dogs are ever attentive with hopeful looks.
Anytime Barb even moves between 4:30 and 5:00, Dakota get up and go to the laundry room watching Barb's every move with ears up and eyes locked on her in hopes that it is mealtime.
And lastly, anytime we are both gone and I walk in the house first, the girls will look right past me in the hopes that their favorite person in the world (and mine) will walk through the door.
Ah, to live the life of an optimistic dog, is there anything better?
The weather turned on us this week going from 70's to 30's in the blink of an eye. It rained, it snowed and then the sun shined again.
The deer and turkeys are so confused, one day they are chasing each other around, the next day they are huddle together trying to make it through the day. It is comical watching them. We did get out and cut some more firewood. We are maybe halfway through all the trees that blew down in that windstorm a couple of months ago.
With these bigger trees, I split while Barb drags the branches somewhere they can be safely burned when we get 2 or more inches of snow. Sadly, there was only one day all winter where we had enough snow to burn and that was before we had everything piled up.
I split and stack it into the tractor bucket, when it is full, Barb dumps it into the wagon. Three bucket loads fill the wagon. We fill the bucket one more time then take everything back to the house.
Then we stack it in the wood storage area. Each side holds 5 rows of wood stacked 6-7' high. Probably 6 face cord per side. So far, we have one side completely full and the other side has one complete row done. The picture below shows Barb blowing out the empty side as we get ready to fill it.
Yet another day I got out and helped Kevin with a garage build he is doing outside of Custer. When I got there that day there were two walls up. I took this picture after we put up the third wall.
By the end of the day, we had all the walls up and sheeted. We also go all the trusses up before we called it a day.
Today is Easter. Barb, being Barb, hid an Easter basket for me filled with chocolate goodies. I love that about her!
We are headed to Rockerville in a couple of hours for brunch with Dan, Bonnie, Merrell and Vicki. Then it will be back home for a relaxing afternoon. Well for me at least, we have some special guests arriving tomorrow so Barb will be busy prepping and cleaning. Before you say anything, she tells me to just stay out of her way so I will be on the couch eating chocolate with the girls staring at me of course!

Weather is crazy for sure. I am glad I live in Florida, soaking in the warmth. I have been following your blog for about a year and your exploits are always entertaining. Secret guests? Color me intrigued.
ReplyDeleteOh, you shall be intrigued and entertained by next week's post then!
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteDogs are good at knowing when it is treat time or their dinner time.
Cute photos of your dogs and the turkeys.
Happy Easter to you and Barb!
"Go for a walk" and "Are you hungry?" are their favorite times of the day.
DeleteThe day here is as miserable as sin, but we did arise to walk in it, so Happy Easter to us and to you.
ReplyDeleteWe have another nice day here. Gets me anxious for spring!
Delete"Hope Springs Eternal" looks from Taos here as well. We always said we should name one of our dogs "Hope" but haven't had a female in a long time! Happy Easter to you all.....
ReplyDeleteThat would be the perfect name!
Deletep.s. we classify ourselves as Optimistic Pessimists!
ReplyDeleteI am so confused! Not really, I call that cautiously optimistic thinking.
DeleteIt is hard to be optimistic these days but beer and wine definitely helps! π I wonder if these special guests just bought a new RV…π€
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter to you both!
One of our favorite songs is Wine, Beer and Whiskey by Little Big Town!
DeleteHappy Easter! I think I like a dogs attitude always hopeful!! Sadie knows all about 5PM and 8 PM when she gets at second supper and a chew thing. Breakfast is not huge on her priority list, She knows many words...hungry, walk, treat and toy being her favorite words! Gotta love dogs!! We still have snow on the ground but if it rains it could be gone fast!
ReplyDelete"Walk", "Treat", Squirrel" are some of our girls favorite words.
DeleteOur cats react to certain noises: opening of a bag must mean treats, and the sound of a can being popped open brings them running. They also have a better internal clock than I do.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your time with friends and the chocolate too!
We have never had indoor cats, but I reckon that it would me much the same thing. We had a some deer a few years ago, if I would rattle the bucket, they would come a runn'in!
DeleteMy dog, Falcor always stares at me too.
ReplyDeleteWishing you a very happy Easter.
Like you are the only person in the world that matters? Isn't that a great feeling?
DeleteLife of Riley lol
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter to you as well. I think it takes way less energy to “see the sunny side of life”. Pups are always and forever hopeful. And they sure know how to fill up a home!
ReplyDeleteVery true. Life is too short to spend a lot of time with someone who is constantly negative.
DeleteWe're a bit of a house divided here but it works. Happy Easter to you. I saw on the weather channel this morning it's looking chilly around your area for the next few days. Yesterday I had a craft fair and it was mid-80's. I was pretty drenched after setup and I got a touch of sunburn. Feels like summer to me, *sigh*.
ReplyDeleteIt's a matter of perspective. We hit 50 today and we were thrilled. If you hit 50 you would be freezing!
DeleteWe have a few trees we need to chop up and move. But I fear they are not high on the to-do list. And ha ha about the girls. My two (girl and boy) do the same thing. They've even got the sounds of certain foods down, never mind I always make up some stupid little song while I get their dinner ready. Grin. Hope you didn't eat too much chocolate and had a great Easter.
ReplyDeleteI think you should video yourself while getting the dogs their food ready, that would be awesome!
DeleteHappy Easter π£π·ππ»
ReplyDeleteIt’s a good thing dogs can’t eat chocolate.
May
No chocolate for the girls, but that does not stop them from trying!
DeleteWe are both glass half full kind of people and Kayce is like all dogs--if the treat bag is rattling, she is sure she is getting a treat. Mike too has been cleaning up downed trees, aspen in our case. Barb is a keeper for sure--an Easter basket!!
ReplyDeleteI knew that from the moment I met her. I never believed in love at first sight until I met her.
DeleteThat is so nice you can help each other-enjoy your chocolate-smiles
ReplyDeleteI've had a couple already!
DeleteNext Fall, you need to get up on top of the "burn pile", with Barb nearby with a shot gun. You jump up and down on the burn pile, Barb will shoot all the bunnies that come scrambling out. (when Marcia was 10, her uncle had her do this ... he shot a lot of them there rabbits)
ReplyDeleteOh, we have lots of bunnies in those burn piles. We see them run in there all the time and the girls are always sniffing around the bottoms of them.
DeleteEveryone needs a Barb. You were the lucky one that got her. I hope/know you're thinking about that as you eat your chocolate.
ReplyDeleteOh hells no, she is mine and I am not giving her up!
DeleteI love the dogs π in your photos. I am a glass half full thinker. Happy Easter π° π£ to you. ❤️
ReplyDeleteThanks, hope you had a great Easter as well!
DeleteHappy Easter! Barb is such a good wife. She never forgets your basket:) Now this blog gets an A+! Great photos of the girls. They never miss a treat noise or the possibility of something dropping. Just when you think winter is over! Our ski area got 2 inches the other day. Of course that was at 9,000 ft. We were only in the upper 60's which we love but only for a day. All that wood brings back memories of having to stack wood at our house in the Poconos. Ugh! Not fun.
ReplyDeleteI thought for sure I was not getting one this year. She had not been to town all week, but low and behold, there it was!
DeleteBarb is one in a million and I expect she would say the same about you. Love your sweet pups. I am happy to get my doggy fixes when I visit here and I'm sure they will be your best friend while they sit and watch you eat your chocolate, even though they can't have any. Thanks for another great post. I know you will have had a wonderful day but as it's still the 5th today (soon to be midnight here), I will wish you all A Very Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteNo chocolate for the girls, but they do not understand that!
DeleteThe next time you blow out those bins, wear a Dust Mask.
ReplyDeleteLucky Man. Happy Easter Barb!
It's about Time.
Agreed!
DeleteWe are the parents who took children on camping vacations and always thought that everything would be perfect. If that is being optimistic I don't know what is...lol
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter!
So true! We did the same thing every weekend except we went to horse shows where we inevitably forget something. But we were always optimistic!
DeleteDogs really do show us what true optimism looks like!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading about Dakota’s hopeful looks and the turkeys’ antics in the changing weather.
Wishing you and Barb a Happy Easter filled with chocolate and cheerful moments. The photos of your dogs and turkeys are just delightful!
Dakota is staring at Barb right now while she makes potato salad. Looking ever hopefully not understanding that she would not like a potato should she get one!
DeleteYour Easter day sounds all right, eating chocolate. Nice stack of wood there and the shed is looking good as well. Not so sure about that snow, one last shot at snow it seems, hopefully there will be more.
ReplyDeleteWe could certainly use the moisture, but I prefer it in the form of rain at this point!
DeleteDogs are always optimistic for sure! I need to split some wood this spring or summer as our fireplace wood is nearly empty. In the past, I rented a gas splitter from a local place that is now out of business. With no place close to rent one and I don't want another small engine to maintain or a full size splitter to store somewhere, I am flirting with buying an electric one. I know it will be puny and cheesy but since I only burn maybe a row of wood a couple feet high by four feet long during a season, I'm hoping it will be enough to at least do that much without too much regret. Then I can hopefully stick it out of the rain somewhere for a few years until I need it again as my wood storage thing I built holds about three or four years worth of wood.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like the perfect plan! I am surprised that someone like you hadn't built one that fits on a 3-point using an old hydraulic cylinder!
DeleteOne thing about living where you do .... there is never a day without work, like chopping wood to last an entire year!! I know, always hopeful you will have enough! I think all dogs are the same ... Cooper is always hopeful a treat will just jump in his mouth!! Funny how that usually happens, too.
ReplyDeleteI have a chore list that will take me well into next year, maybe even the year after!
DeleteWriting is an act of hope in itself, isn't it? Will someone read this? Will someone understand? Does my life mean something to others too...?
ReplyDeleteMy default is optimistic but I am easily distracted too.
Due to childhood conflicts, I must admit that I dislike turkeys so much I am a bit pleased to hear when they struggling, ha.
Have you ever written about said turkey trauma? It sounds like it might be entertaining!
