A Day in the Life at the J-B

The past two weeks have been like ground hogs day. Day after day after day after day. Don’t get me wrong, we are enjoying our days it is just that they are basically the same. We get up about an hour before sunrise, have breakfast, watch the news and get terrorized for the day. It is amazing we are not all dead yet based on the perception the media put out.

Then I head to the deer stand for 2 hours to decompress from being depressed by the news and wait for TBO (The Big One) to come wandering by. TBO has not made an appearance but I have had some pretty cool experiences. For example, this guy walked but just before dark one afternoon. A nice one, but not The One.

Then there was this guy who not only walked by but stopped by to say hi. I had just enough time to slowly get the camera and make a short video before he decided that he was late for a meeting.

After the morning deer hunt it is time to work on the house. I have been working on two projects; the porch roof and taping and mudding the sheetrock in the main bathroom. Both projects are time consuming but are going well.

I have the entire east side of the porch done and am now working on the south and east.

Once the porch is done we can finish the siding!

I hate taping and mudding but it is going well,  A couple more coats and some sanding and it will be ready for primer and paint!

Barb (the overachiever), has been working on 3 projects; trim for the doors, staining the posts and beams on the porch and building a frame for the mirror in the bathroom.

The mirror is almost done, I will save the picture for when the bathroom is done and it is hanging on the wall.

Of course while we are working the deer taunt us by standing out front.

Or they just stare at Dakota through the window...

We are in somewhat of a time crunch because Barb wants certain things done before Forrest, Somer and Lily come and visit on the 21st. Seems like a lot of time but Barb is leaving me for 10 days on the 11th to vacation with Jessica and the kids in Arizona. Meaning we have less than a week to get some of these things done.

Come about 4:00 it is back to the deer stand for 2 more hours of therapy.

Barb takes the 4 legged girls for a walk for a little therapy of her own. Then at night (when it is cold out) the girls hang out by the fire. Zoey has become quite the freeze baby. We often find her in this position…..

Or this one….

Or even this one…

Speaking of "cool" dogs, Zoey's mom recently had another litter. If you are interested in a puppy or just want to see some puppy pictures click here foe Foster Lake Frenchies website

Except for Wednesday night when we head to Pringle for burger night, and last Thursday morning. We kinda over did it. We had a great time dinner, music, pool….when we left we were the last cars in the parking lot. Barb was moving a little slow the entire next day. I managed to get some work done but at a much, much slower pace.

Amongst all this we had a special visitor when my sister Carol came out for 4 days to spend time with us. This is.... the 3rd? year in a row that she has come out to visit us.  It is always great to see and spend time with her. She knitted while Barb and I worked. She did not want her picture taken but I was able to sneak one while I was in the scaffolding working on the porch.

Then I turned around and took this picture of Barb as she was chucking some logs from behind the wood shed.

We did take one afternoon to drive the Needles Highway, just Carol and I. We spent so much time talking we did not take one picture!

Day by day the cycle continues, little by little we are getting things done.

  1. We gave up on the major network news awhile back.

Wow, you guys are my hero's, doing your own sheet rock!

Take a break and head down to Arizona for a couple months this year. We hope to head down around Christmas and spend about 3 months. Bringing bicycles, backpacks, packrafts and the Side by Side so should be able to find something to amuse us to do.

    Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas.

    1. I don't mind hanging the sheetrock, but after that I would rather hire someone but being that it was a small job, I thought I would do it myself. Hopefully this is the last taping and mudding I ever do!

Our winter plans are constantly changing. We were going to go to Florida but that has changed to a trip to Oregon so it looks as though we will miss you guys again!

  2. Try eliminating the news for one week and see how much better you feel. Eliminating the news is the best thing I ever did. Be it Tucker or Tapper, they are all full of it.

    1. Probably some very sound advice, we just might have to try it out!

  3. Your sister has the right idea on how to help you work. Maybe I should take up knitting. As far as the news, we start off by saying "What is Lester going to scare us with today?" And he doesn't disappoint. How big is TBO? Is he a 30 pointer? I think that was just made up for a song. Carry on.

    1. You really think you could knit with those grotesquely disfigured hands?!? I only have one goal when it comes to TBO, it has to be bigger than anything Barb could possibly shoot!

    2. Lmao! Things I can never do now. Knit and eat Sushi. Good luck with TBO and out doing Barb.

    3. Or play the piano or pick a guitar. I am surprised you can even handle a game controller!

  4. As usual you guys are amazing working so hard on your build. Having that deer coming right up to the blind so say hello was fun. Hopefully TBO shows up soon. Love the pictures of the dogs with Zoey laying up on the hearth. So cute. I imagine the snow will fly soon. We have a dusting on the mountains around us currently.

    1. Mule deer are much more curious than whitetail. The whitetail seems to sense something and do not come with 100' of the blind.

We had snow a week or so ago then it got up to 60 again.

  5. You guys are sure doing a great job on your place. Hopefully one day we will get there to do an inspection. 😉 That was a beauty buck you passed on. Are you only allowed one per season? Zoey and Dakota got the best spot!

    1. I can get 3 with the various tags I have, Barb can get 1. We have found that 2 is plenty to get us through the year though.

  6. I think I identify with Zoey!! You sure have some heathy deer up there. I would sit in the blind all day just for the pictures and never get any work done.

    1. 4 hours a day gives me my deer fix, then I am ready to work. However, if TBO is in the area then I would sit all day!

  7. The girls look happy hanging out by the fireplace. We are still in Oregon...love hanging with our friends, but I could do without rain everyday. Ugh! Doesn't look like we will be stalking the deer at Greg's place until spring, and by then it will be too late for Red to get a white tail. We will miss seeing you both in Q...stay warm!

    1. Forrest mentioned that it has been raining a lot out there. We would love to meet up with you guys somewhere. Who knows, things might change!

  8. The fur kids sure look like they really enjoy that fireplace, I'm sure you built it just for them, right?? LOL, stay warm this winter and let us know if you come south.

  9. That is quite a long and big porch you guys are having. Nice to be sheltered from the elements while sitting out front or back. Zoey does know the best spot in the house. Having the deer looking into your windows is hilarious. They must know that they are safe to do so.

    1. Anything near the house is safe and some of them seem quite curious as to what we are doing in there.

  10. The porch is awesome!! Taping and mudding is the worst but not as bad as the sanding. Did our entire family room (even the ceiling) about 30 years ago and will never do it again!! You two definitely are getting great exercise. Barb's got the perfect upper body workout going with the wood throwing. Dakota and Zoey have the life for sure!

    1. Sanding is not too bad except when you are working overhead on the ceiling. Then it is a killer on your arms. We have a vacuum attachment so the dust is not too bad.
