Just when you thought I said all I could say about our get together last week, there is more. We had one adventure left in the tank so Dino, Steve, Lisa, Barb and I jumped in the Jeep and pointed it towards Rapid City.
What was our destination? Call it morbid curiosity, but we went to The Prepper Show! When we arrived, we were not sure we were in the right place as there were maybe 10 cars in the parking lot. The $10 entry fee had been reduced to $5. We did not know what to expect, but when we walked in, it was way below anything we might have expected.
20 or so tables scattered around the room with maybe 12 vendors. The busiest was a honey vendor selling their goods. The others were pretty much what we expected. Military Surplus, Medical Kits, MRE's (Meals, Ready to Eat), knives. No guns, no ammo, but parts and a holster or two.

We did not have anything planned for supper, remember, everyone was supposed to have left by now, so when we got to the MRE's Barb told everyone to pick one for supper.

There was one interesting vendor that we talked to. Interesting in the fact that the guy was very passionate about what he was talking about. He was pushing a crypto coin called Texit which he claimed will be the currency of Texas in the future. Valued at around $5 now, it will be worth over $80 this coming February and for the minimum investment of $1,000 you can get in on the ground floor! Color me skeptical, but I am going to pass on this one.
Curiosity satisfied, we let without buying anything.
Monday was a quiet day for Barb and I as we sat on the couch and soaked in the silence of the day. Just soaking in the quietness and memories of the past week. We watched a movie in the afternoon, football in the evening.
Speaking of memories of the past week, we had a couple of reminders. When I pulled the jeep out of the garage to go get water I heard a crunch. Alarmed, I stopped, got out of the vehicle and walked around it. Nothing. Weird. I backed all the way out, that is when I saw it.
Some smart aleck had placed a beer can under the tire! (I just looked up the definition of Smart Aleck and yup, it fits pretty well. Noun: an obnoxiously conceited and self-assertive person with pretensions to smartness or cleverness). Upon further investigation, I could see it was a Busch Light. Who do I know that drinks bottom shelf beer? 🤔
I found another one when I went to the bottom cabinet of my tool chest. There was a book in the door of the truck. Dino has written in his blog that he had left a few reminders of his visit, and I guess these are a few. Then when I went up into the loft in the garage, I found his remote-controlled beer cooler tucked in the corner! Bastard! I don't know how he could have climbed those stairs being as crippled as he is. Then, in my processing room an empty beer case! I shall exact my revenge someday, I do not know how, but it will be coming!
Tuesday, we were back at it hard. I had discovered a standing dead tree while walking the property with Dave last week, so we set out to turn it into firewood.
Not to be outdone, Barb found her how tree and set out to cut it down with her trusty DeWalt battery saw!
After cutting it up into sections we started splitting, an hour or so later we had a pile of firewood!
While we were doing that, I was texting back and forth with Chris at the farm. They had just started their chickpeas and they were down a guy as Farmer Bob is on a trip to Germany. He wasn't asking, but he was asking, so I texted him this:
So, we spent the rest of the day packing! This morning, we are starting our journey north. But first a few pictures from the critter cams.
This next one did not come from a trail camera, but it is a critter. A big ugly creepy critter. I hate, hate, hate spiders and this one is/was one from my nightmares. About the size of a quarter, it was perched at the end of our walkway waiting to pounce on some unsuspecting victim, lay eggs in its ears where the babies will eat their victim from the inside out.
One more video (it's a dog video Harry!) before I close this post out, Barb got Zoey some little booties the other day, this is the video of her trying them out!
Our next post will come to you from North Dakota where we will be harvesting chickpeas, maybe a little harrowing, and who knows what else. I know one thing I will be doing for sure, wondering what other treasures Dino may have left for me to find!
It's so funny ... I got booties for Cooper and he acted like nothing ... they didn't bother him at all. Weird. Anyway, love the critter cam, and LOVE my chain saw on a stick. Those things make cutting down trees FUN!! Good harvesting to ye!!
ReplyDeleteThat Dino lol I'm sure you are happy to go back to the farm to help and this time Barb gets to go for a bit. Happy travels.
