The roller coaster that is the weather in South Dakota continues. What was 85 degrees last week turned into…..
Are you freaking kidding me? It is mid-May!!!!
Two days before the arrival of the snow we welcomed our next visitors. Guy and Sue have been fulltime RV'ing for the past 5 years and were passing through our area for the week. They recently took possession of their new rig and truck, luckily the driveway was dry when they arrived!
Welcome to the J-B! |
After that the wind and the rain started and we were forced onto other projects. As a reward to ourselves we headed into Custer to the Purple Pie Place, our first visit of 2019!
We also made the trek to the Elks Club in Rapid City where we met up with Steve and Debbie one last time.
Prime Rib at the Elks! |
I bet Guy and Sue were not expecting this when they came up from Utah! |
I tell you, there is no quit in this "Guy", he kept working through the cold until I finally had to say, "enough" each day and we retired to our individual rigs.
The dogs even got out to enjoy the snow but Daisy required a little extra layering.
Once inside Daisy needed to be wrapped in a blanket to keep warm |
Front side all sheeted! |
Happy hours took place in the kitchen out of the wind |
Lacy (in the middle) weighs 1/4 of Daisy! |
Goodbye guys, come again! |
The rancher we lease our pasture to move some of his cattle over the other day. Nice to see them roaming in front of the camper. The calves are super cute and other than having to open and close a couple of gates it is no big deal at all.
And the bluebirds have moved back into the neighborhood! They are busy fighting the swallows for the nesting boxes and one has even set up residence in the bathroom of the house, who knew we would not be the first to sleep in the new house!
The Weather all over is far from the norm. Seeing that four letter word this late in the year is not supposed to happen. Nice that all your visitors are able to lend a hand building your house. That place is Huge.
ReplyDeleteBe Safe and Enjoy warmer weather.
It's about time.
The extra hand was really appreciated, we are that much closer to getting it weather tight!
DeleteBrrrr...that looks cold! Too bad it snowed, as you lost some valuable Guy time. The barndominium is looking good!
ReplyDeleteHope to have the roof on by the time you get here so we can relax a little!
DeleteI think I would be spending a lot of time at the Pie Shop, you know, just getting warm!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, of course, just to keep warm. By the way, they will warm up the pie for you as well!
DeleteIt has been a crazy month of weather all over. We lucked out during the month of May with temps in Phoenix being 20 degrees below normal. By the second week in June, SD isn't allowed to have any more snow LOL.
ReplyDeleteNothing but sunshine and wildflowers in June! Oh, and tourists.....
DeleteLooks like progress is being made even if the weather isn’t cooperating. Enjoyed reading you latest blog.
ReplyDeleteWe are trying to focus all our efforts on getting it weather tight, we are tired or shoveling snow or shop-vacing rainwater out of our house!
DeleteThanks for the comment!
Wow that snow! It's beautiful but you would think mid May it would be done, but the weather is weird this year everywhere I'm thinking. Your property is just absolutely stunning! Your place is really coming along and nice to have the help when they visit.
ReplyDeleteWe usually love the snow and yes, it was beautiful But enough is enough already!
DeleteUnbelievable ... hopefully that is the last of it for this year. Progress is looking great. You sure are lucky people to have so many friends pop by for a visit and dig right into your project. As the old saying goes "many hands make light work". Kind of like the old days for barn raising.
ReplyDeleteThe extra hands are appreciated that is for sure!
DeleteMan you guys sure get the wacky weather! Nice to have so many helpers stop by for a visit and a little play time. Keep up the good work and stay safe!
ReplyDeleteAll the snow is all gone and hopefully the weather will settle down so we can get the roof done!
DeleteWhat the?!?! Even we didn't get snow in northern Alberta! Let me guess you blame the Canadians for those three days lol. Great progress on the build and how nice is that to have helpful visitors? You have an awesome work/fun balance going there, keep up the great work and play safe, that's a tall roof!
ReplyDeleteIt is a little nerve-wracking walking on the trusses, putting up the roof deck and underlayment. We will be glad when the tall work is over!
DeleteSending you warm thoughts from 95 degrees in Florida...really, why can't it just be a perfect 70 degrees everywhere? Every time I see your progress, I am blown away...GREAT JOB!
DeleteUgh, 95 is too hot! You are right, anything from 65 to 70 would be perfect.
DeleteHi! I've been reading your blog for a while now and finally got the bravery to go ahead and give
ReplyDeleteyou a shout out from Kingwood Texas! Just wanted
to mention keep up the fantastic work!
Thanks for the shout out.....
DeleteDespite the weather, you guys are making nice progress on the house. LOVE that pic of Daisy in the blanket!
ReplyDeleteShe does like to be tucked in when it is chilly out!
DeleteYou have made the snow fun! It’s all coming along!
ReplyDeleteI hear a couple I know well... may be visiting you soon!
Happy Memorial Day!
Yes they are, looking forward to it!
DeleteNever in a million years would I have expected to find the best weather of our entire year of travel up in the northeast. Crazy times. I hope it gets better for you all soon. I'm sure all that work would be so much easier if the weather was just slightly cooperative.
ReplyDeleteIt is actually nicer in Alaska then it is here!
DeleteWe would visit if there wasn't so much snow......and work. You surely don't need us when you have Barb. That's why I want you around when the Zombie Apocolypse hits. You can hunt and build shelters. It looks like it is coming along.
ReplyDeleteWell, the snow is gone but the work is still there so you better take the northern route on your way to Alaska. As far as the Zombie's, if it comes to that how do I know you are not a zombie when you come driving up?
DeleteWell while you were pestered with unseasonal snow, we were enjoying the unseasonal coolness in Tucson. Crazy weather.
ReplyDeleteHopefully as the weather improves, more guest will arrived bringing their tools/expertise/help as their contribution to your home building. Maybe you should set up a section in your house where you let your guest register as a memento of their time there. In addition to this blog, a photo album showing photos of who came by and shared their time would be a great memoralbia and a future conversation starter.
Great idea but I don't think those who have come and left already would come back to sign the wall. They probably think we would put them to work again!
DeleteGuess you just realized that you should leave a space for a skidoo in your garage to take out lets say on Independence day for a spin. ;-) ha ha. Seriously, you are doing an amazing job and that in all kinds of weather. Keep at it!
ReplyDeleteLet's just hope that this is an unusual year and we won't have snow in mid-May going forward!
DeleteYes it's the weather this year, when I was in Hill City. ..it was bone cold AND snow! ! ! Many snow storms that shut down the state, but the.COLD was worst! !! 4-5 days cold in the 50's BELOW ZERO. COLDEST RECORD in December was minus 56 below. Cars would not start, sewer froze , pipes bursted. I remember waking up to running water from the kitchen out the front door. Looked like a frozen water falls out the door. Other half started packing and back to Colorado the family went. Now being solo again SD is calling me back. May be just the summers anyway.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds horrible we don't need any more winters like that!
DeleteUnreal to see the snow in May. We had snow showers in late April in Missouri. Of course it was 80 degrees 3 days later.
ReplyDeleteLets just hope those tornados stay away from your area!
DeleteYikes, and we were suffering in near 100 temps:)
ReplyDeleteI think I would rather deal with the snow than 100 degree temps!
DeleteFarewell to you blogger friends, it was very nice watching your journeys and building your house, but I have some major medical issues to resolve, Might be back 6-8 months ! Thanks for allowing me to electronicly travel along.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, hope all goes well!
DeleteSo funny! We are currently building a Barndominium in OK but are FullTimers as well. We aren’t sure what our travel will look like in the future either. Also, we are friends with Guy and Sue as well! Such a small RV community. If you are ever in eastern OK, contact us. We will have two RV hookup sites completed by end of summer, if it ever stops raining!
