And the Award for Grandpa of the Year goes to........

......Me of course!

It is only the 4th month of the year and I already have this award locked up. It all started yesterday when our daughter Jessica had the day off and we decided to head to the zoo with grandkids Dylan and Kendall for a day of fun. It was Wednesday after all and it would be nice and quite day at the zoo. Wrong! It was spring break at the local schools and the parking lot was absolutely packed.

Getting inside was not any better, it was a maze of single, double and even quad strollers and that was only 1/3 of the kids in the zoo, the other 2/3 were screamers running around from exhibit to exhibit on a sugar high.

Now anyone who knows me, knows how much I LOVE kids, it was a trait I think I inherited from my father and he from his father. A long generation of total tolerance with screaming kids. The more screaming and running around the happier I am. Not to mention the germ-fest that must be going on in that place! I had to take a sanitizer shower when I was done but I survived without having one melt down or hurting one kid! Thus, the Grandpa of the Year award!

As always click on pictures to enlarge

Look at all the screamers!

First came the fun on the carousel........

Then came the train ride........

To make the day a little more fun I made up a little game...... We could chose one animal to have each of our pictures taken with and you could not refuse. Here is the first one.....

Dylan and a monkey (Dylan is on the left)

An Orangutan mom and her baby (on the right)
Barb is on the ...... right
Well, I guess my awards for the Father of the Year and for Husband of the Year may be a lost cause.....For my picture, Barb was looking for a Jackass but there was none to be found. So instead she found a turkey. As many of you may know, the turkey came in second to the eagle as our national bird. So she chose a bird that has a close personal connection to the majestic Bald Eagle.....I'll take it!

All in all it was not a bad day at all.

Photo Challenge Day 3.....

For day 3 of the black and white photo challenge I selected this panoramic shot taken at Saguaro National Park outside of Tucson Arizona.  You really have to click on it and enlarge it to see all the detail of these giant wonders of the desert.

This photo makes me think of John and Pam whose blog is "Oh The Places They Go!" whom I would like to nominate for this challenge. John and Pam are hunters of the ever elusive crested saguaro and are very serious hikers who visit some wonderful places and take great pictures. (I don't think you have been nominated previously)

The only rules of the challenge are:
1. On five consecutive days, create a post using a recent or past photograph in black and white.
2. Invite another blogging friend each day to join in the challenge.

  1. I can only imagine how packed the zoo was! We made it to Goblin Valley and Little Wild Horse Canyon today. Every vehicle in the parking lot had 4 adults and 8 kids. Little Wild Horse Canyon had kids everywhere! The slots are very narrow so in passing you become quite chummy with total strangers. We even crawled under a few. Steve is having a great time with the jeep. We've been on some very scenic roads.

Looks like we'll be seeing you on the 13th. Looking forward to the summer.

    1. As my kids say; "Welcome to Utah!". Hopefully we will be in quieter yet still scenic areas throughout the summer.

    1. Even though Barb proof reads each of the posts before they are published, I think I am going to pay for that one!

  3. Remembering the childhood events that stuck wih me...the trip to the zoo being one of them...one must look at those kids and wonder 'what is going to stick with them?' That is pretty special.

Watch for Tabasco in your eggs this morning, Jim!

  4. What a wonderful day with your daughter and grandchildren:) I can just imagine the level of the noise. I can tell you weren't a former teacher because I don't believe those loud voices would bring the same level of joy:) Clever idea for taking photos of everyone...love the captions:) Lots of wonderful memories made that day for sure.

Thanks for nomination and the wonderful comment:) I think I'll pass.

    1. No, I have to give all the credit in the world to teachers for their patience. I would have never made it.

  5. I absolutely love the game you played and yes Ben Franklin was convinced the turkey should be our national bird because it serves a purpose and Eagles are essentially scavengers...but unfortunately he was overruled
